The Story Within Our Logo
The tree of life is an image that many people have seen. It is used in art, literature, and religion to illustrate the concept of interconnectedness within ourselves and the world around us. It is a reminder that our own happiness, health, and energy are inextricably intertwined with the happiness, health, and energy of all living things. The Tree of Life appears in many different cultures under many different names but there are three defining features that carry consistent meaning throughout its forms.
Leaves
The individual leaves depicted on the Tree of Life represent the uniqueness of all earthly creations, including ourselves. Like the leaves of a tree we are all different shapes, colors and textures, yet the Tree of Life reminds us that we can coexist peacefully.
Branches
The branches reaching outwards represent our human need for expression- in art, science and spirituality, among other outlets. In this way, the Tree of Life is also symbolic of our potential to improve and expand our notions of the human condition through compassionate action (literally reaching out our hands and arms).
Trunk/Roots
The trunk and roots are the anchor. The solid trunk is a symbol of strength, a place we can always return to and remember who we are. The roots remind us of our origins but also imply that our actions in this life have deep impact, even if we cannot see it right away.
The “Tree” of Sakash Health and Wellness
The tree of life represents how Sakash Health and Wellness approaches the care of each of our clients. Our clients will feel like they have been treated as a whole person. They will feel that what is important to them and what is unique to them has been heard, nurtured, and valued in their journey towards better health.
In the 18 years of working with my clients I have come to fully appreciate that no one can be healed one-dimensionally. We should not be defined by an injury and we should not be placed into statistical categories of healing by insurance companies. As the logo depicts, we have many layers of ourselves that are unique to us and intertwined together. Beyond the anatomy of bones, organs, systems, and soft tissue there is the deeper impact of the relationship between Body, Mind, and Spirit. I repetitively tell my clients that our biography becomes our physiology. Our life experiences, relationships, and emotions create the one of a kind person that we are today. For example, a physical problem can result from the holding patterns of stress, the systematic changes promoted by dis-ease, past injury, or the simple neglect of ourselves in daily mindfulness and health behaviors. I love that this logo shows the layers, the spiraling, and the upward movement towards what we could “dream” to be if we looked at ourselves and each other in this way. Even more powerful is that we have an opportunity to start seeing ourselves in this way even before injury occurs and to appreciate and recognize that the actions that we choose today will help to form the quality of our life in the future.
I would like to recognize and thank Madelyn Herbert for the creation of a “tree” that captured all that I was looking for. I am grateful on a daily basis for the inspiration that it offers to my clients and to myself.
