Physical Therapy
Shellie Sakash takes a specialized and holistic approach to your recovery and has been able to help many clients just like you renew their sense of physicality and avoid surgery, pain meds, and injections. Direct Access laws in New Hampshire and Maine allow you to come directly to her without a doctor’s referral. All you need to bring is the desire and hope that you can heal.
Shellie does not believe that getting older means that you have to accept stiffness, pain, or limitations. She believes that the human body is resilient and that, when asked in the “right” way, it will respond and recover, giving you more freedom of experience in your aging years. As an out of network provider Shellie has the ability to work one to one with each of her patients and to focus ALL of her time and energy on you. At your first visit, Shellie will complete an extensive evaluation. She will spend time getting to know you - your past and present life experiences, your medical history, and what you hope to achieve and regain in your life. She will use this information to design and implement a plan of care that will include specialized manual therapies, Pilates and traditional exercise prescription, movement education, and mindset and lifestyle coaching to help you to achieve your goals. This plan of care will be implemented through a series of follow up visits. As an out of network provider, Shellie is not required to follow an automatic frequency and duration that insurances require. She will design your plan of care based on your history, your ability to achieve symptom control (when present), and the promotion of empowerment in healing and longevity through a consistent home practice.
Initial Evaluation
This is a holistic and comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment that establishes your current level of physical health. Shellie will talk with you about your history as a person as well as the history of your injury. After talking, she will perform skilled tests and measures to look at your strength, mobility, flexibility, posture, movement patterning and control, balance, and endurance. An initial evaluation is imperative so that she can understand all of the factors that are contributing to your pain or loss of function, not just your symptoms. This evaluation will allow her to establish a physical therapy diagnosis to guide the plan of care so that she can efficiently and effectively help you reach your goals.
Revisit
Following the initial evaluation, a plan of care will be established that will address the deficits identified in the evaluation and your individual needs and goals. These sessions may include manual therapies, modalities, Pilates-based therapeutic exercise, traditional and functional strength training, neuromuscular reeducation, mindset and lifestyle coaching, and instruction in a home program. Frequency and duration of treatments will be based on your progress at each visit. This can be influenced by your body’s ability to heal and respond to treatment, compliance to your prescribed home program, and the ability to prioritize and maintain consistency in the treatment plan prescribed. Shellie believes that every individual, even with the same diagnosis, is not the same when it comes to healing. Therefore she will not prescribe a cookbook plan of care of 2x/week for 6-8 weeks. Instead she will reassess you at every visit and proceed accordingly.
